• Sayılabilen ve sayılamayan isimlerin miktarını sormak için kullandığımız soru ifadeleridir. Bu sorulara verilecek cevap some, any, a/an ile olabileceği gibi ‘containers’la da olabilir.

How Much

• Sayılamayan isimlerin miktarını sormak için ‘ne kadar’ anlamında kullanılır.
• Kendisinden sonra sayılamayan bir isim gelmelidir.

B: There is some butter.

A: How much butter is there on the plate?
B: There isn’t any butter on the plate.

A: How much butter is there on the plate?
B: There is a packet of butter on the plate.

A: How much butter is there on the plate?
B: There are two packets of butter on
the plate.

How Many

• Sayılabilen isimlerin miktarını sormak için ‘kaç tane’ anlamında kullanılır. Kendisinden sonra sayılabilen ve çoğul ‘s’ takısı almış bir isim gelmelidir.

A: How many pencils are there in the pencil box?
B: There are three pencils in the pencil box.

A: How many packets of sugar are there at home?
B: There are two packets of sugar at home.

A: How many girls are there in the room?
B: There is a girl in the room.
Or …
There is one girly in the room.

NOT: ’How many’ ile sorulan sorularda kelime çoğul olmasına rağmen eğer bir taneyse ‘there is’ ile cevap verilir.
